Kogi university lecturer dies in hotel during sex with student

A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, passed away in a hotel room on July 15, 2025, following an alleged sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level student.

The incident was reported to the Anyigba Police Division, leading to the student’s detention for questioning.

Dr. Ibikunle, a married man with children, was reportedly known for exploiting female students by offering grades in exchange for sexual favors.

Sources claim he consumed several energy drinks before the encounter with the student, identified as Gloria Samuel, a second-year Social Studies Education major.

During the encounter, the lecturer collapsed and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The hotel manager, Moses Friday, alerted the police after the student reported the incident.

SP William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, describing it as unfortunate.

The student has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

An autopsy has been conducted, though the results are not yet available, according to Aya.
