Korede Bello: Why Christians should focus on the risen Christ, not cross

Singer Korede Bello has spoken candidly about his Christian faith, sharing reflections on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his personal journey from Islam to Christianity.

In a video shared on Instagram, Bello questioned what he described as an excessive focus on the crucifixion of Jesus, stressing that Christ’s sacrifice has already been completed.

“Does Jesus still belong on the cross? Before you crucify me, know that I am a Christian, and Christ has already died for me.

He has already been crucified, so there’s no need for that,” he said, while clarifying that he was not dismissing the importance of the cross.

According to the singer, his reflection came during a moment of prayer, when he realised that Jesus is no longer on the cross but seated at the right hand of God.

“I was praying and looking at the cross when it hit me—He’s no longer on it. When I think of Jesus, I think of my identity as seated right next to the Father. That’s where I am,” Bello explained.

He emphasised that the resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith, quoting the Apostle Paul’s teaching that without Christ’s resurrection, faith would be meaningless.

Bello also revealed that he was born and raised a Muslim but later embraced Christianity after studying the Bible independently.

“I was not born a Christian. I was born a Muslim. I had to start with the Bible myself—not for religious reasons, but for personal reasons,” he said.

The singer expressed concern that many Christians remain fixated on the cross rather than the risen and ascended Christ.

He noted that Christian identity, according to his understanding, is rooted in the resurrected Christ who now reigns with the Father.

“The cross carried our sins—the old identity is gone. Staying there is like nailing Christ over and over again,” he said.

Bello encouraged believers to focus on love as the true mark of Christianity, referencing Jesus’ teaching that love for one another is the defining sign of His followers.

He also described communion as the true act of remembrance, symbolising both Christ’s sacrifice and His victory.
