Kurmin Wali attack: Survivors recount ordeal, praise Uba Sani for support

Victims who escaped last Sunday’s abduction in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have commended Governor Uba Sani for personally visiting the community to commiserate with residents and assess the situation.

Speaking on Friday, some of the survivors recounted their experiences during the attack and expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, praising his prompt response, provision of medical care, and psychosocial support for the victims.

One of the escapees, Mr Joseph Kurmin Wali, said the attackers struck on Sunday morning while residents were gathered for worship. According to him, the assailants ordered worshippers to lie face down before forcing them into a nearby bush, adding that he managed to escape amid the confusion.

Mr Joseph described Governor Uba Sani’s visit to the community as reassuring, noting that it demonstrated compassion and genuine concern for the people. He prayed for the governor’s continued success and expressed confidence in his commitment to the security and wellbeing of Kaduna State residents.

Also speaking at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, another resident of Kurmin Wali, Mr Bernard Bauna, described the governor as a people-oriented leader for travelling to the remote community to obtain firsthand information and sympathise with the victims.

He said the governor promised the establishment of a military command in collaboration with relevant authorities, the construction of a road linking the community to the highway, and the provision of a Primary Healthcare Centre.

Mr Bauna offered prayers for the governor and pledged the community’s support for his administration, while also thanking the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government, Mr Dauda Madaki; the member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Fidelix Joseph Bagudu; and the representative of Kajuru State Constituency, Hon Usman Danlami Stingo, for their support.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Prof AbdulKadir Musa Tabari, disclosed that 11 victims of the attack are currently in stable condition. He said the patients have been assigned to various specialists for further treatment and management.

Prof Tabari assured that the victims would receive the best possible care, expressing confidence that they would leave the hospital fully recovered and in good spirits.
