Kwankwaso denies planned protest over insecurity, backs peaceful resolution

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Coalition (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports alleging that party leaders are planning a protest over rising insecurity in the country.

Kwankwaso, in a statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026, described the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard what he called deliberate misinformation.

The former Minister of Defence stated that the NDC does not support any form of action capable of disrupting public peace or leading to the destruction of lives and property.

He stressed that the NDC remains committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue in addressing Nigeria’s national challenges.

“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” Kwankwaso said.

Reaffirming the party’s democratic stance, Kwankwaso said the NDC believes the ballot box remains the most effective and legitimate means for citizens to express their grievances and drive political change.

The former two-term governor of Kano State also expressed confidence that the NDC would secure a decisive victory in the 2027 general election through peaceful democratic participation.

Kwankwaso noted: “As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.

“The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation.
