Kwara attack: LG chair imposes curfew

The Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State, Abubakar Danladi, has imposed a night curfew following ongoing security concerns after the February 3 attack on the communities of Woro and Nuku.

The directive, disclosed in a statement on Friday, restricts movement across the local government from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. daily.

Danladi said the decision followed a detailed assessment of the security situation carried out in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders.

He described the curfew as a preventive step aimed at averting further breakdown of law and order.

According to him, the restriction takes immediate effect as authorities respond to emerging threats within the area.

“The decision was reached after a comprehensive security review with security agencies and community stakeholders.

“This is a proactive measure designed to protect lives and property,” he said, adding that both vehicular and pedestrian movement would be prohibited during the curfew hours.

The council chairman urged residents to remain calm, stressing that the measure is temporary and necessary to restore stability.

He also noted that the curfew is not intended to disrupt daily economic and social activities but to create an enabling environment for security operatives to address the prevailing threats.

Tension has remained high in Kaiama LGA since gunmen invaded Woro, killing and abducting residents while setting buildings ablaze.

Following the attack, more than 176 bodies were reportedly recovered and buried in mass graves, as security personnel intensified patrols across Woro and nearby communities.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media last weekend showed women and children allegedly abducted during the assault, lined up in what appeared to be a forest area while armed men interrogated them.
