Lagos airport worker returns lost purse with $1,700, passports

A staff member at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, has returned a lost purse containing $1,700, international passports and other valuables to its owner.

The worker, Frank Omorojie, a casual employee in the Environment Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, discovered the purse at the departure hall of Terminal 2 on Wednesday near the Rwanda Air check-in counter.

The purse contained $1,700 in cash, a British passport, a Nigerian passport and a credit card—items critical for any traveller.

Instead of keeping the items, Omorojie handed them over to Aviation Security officials in line with standard procedures. The belongings were later documented and transferred to the Customer Service Department, which made a public announcement.

Shortly after, a female passenger was identified and reunited with her purse intact.

Reacting to the development, Omorojie said he only did what was right.

His action has been praised by colleagues and airport authorities, who described it as a strong example of professionalism and integrity within the aviation sector.

The FAAN reiterated its commitment to ethical conduct and customer service, noting that such acts help build trust in Nigeria’s aviation system and align with global best practices.
