The Lagos State House of Assembly has removed its Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, with immediate effect following a resolution adopted during plenary on Tuesday.
The decision, which was reached through a voice vote, was presided over by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who said the action was in line with the Assembly’s rules on tenure.
Obasa explained that Onafeko’s tenure had expired, stressing that the move was procedural and not disciplinary.
Onafeko had served as Clerk since January 14, 2022, overseeing legislative administration and coordinating the activities of the House. The Speaker commended his service, noting that his tenure witnessed significant legislative engagements and institutional development.
The Assembly also announced the appointment of Adenike Osinowo as the new Clerk, with immediate effect. Obasa expressed confidence in her ability to enhance legislative processes and administrative efficiency.
In a related development, lawmakers confirmed Latifat Ogbara as Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, citing her experience and track record in public service.
The House also confirmed Remi Bello as a member of the commission, tasking him with supporting ongoing institutional reforms.
Lawmakers urged the new appointees to uphold professionalism, transparency and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
