Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emerged as the first passenger to ride on the Blue Line Rail as the train commenced commercial operations in the state on Monday, September 4, 2023.
Sanwo-Olu boarded the train from the Marina terminal en route Mile 2.
The Managing Director of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abimbola Akinajo, last Wednesday, announced that the Lagos Blue Line Rail would commence commercial operations on Monday (today).

Akinajo, while speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, said Sanwo-Olu would be the first passenger during the inaugural ride on the train.
The LAMATA boss stated that the train system would be conveying 175,000 passengers on a daily basis.
She said though the commercial operations would have begun in the first quarter of 2023, it was delayed to ensure that all modalities were in place.
Akinajo added that after Monday, the rail operations would begin by 6:30 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. on a daily basis.
