The Lagos State Government has completed the installation of the final Ductile Cast Iron (DCI) pipeline in the long-awaited Adiyan II Water Project, marking a major milestone toward expanding potable water supply across the state.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a post on X on Saturday, describing it as a significant step toward addressing Lagos’ water needs.
“Good news from our water infrastructure front! The last DCI pipe (pipe no. 944) was successfully installed on October 24, 2025 — a major milestone in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project.
“The 8km transmission pipeline has now reached Akute, bringing us closer to delivering an additional 70 million gallons of potable water per day to Lagos residents,” Wahab wrote.
The commissioner added that the project would greatly enhance the state’s water infrastructure, providing clean, safe, and reliable water to households across Lagos once completed.
He reaffirmed that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes sustainable infrastructure and improved quality of life for residents.
In an earlier update in September, Wahab noted that pipe laying had reached 98 percent completion, with efforts focused on resolving minor technical issues to ensure smooth progress and adherence to the project timeline.
He explained that the Adiyan II Water Project, designed as a 320,000m³/day water treatment plant, would produce about 70 million gallons of potable water daily.
“When completed, homes across Lagos will once again enjoy steady pipe-borne water.
“This reaffirms the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to restoring and expanding access to safe water,” he said.
Located between Lagos and Ogun States, the Adiyan II project has been under development for over a decade, facing several delays due to funding and technical challenges.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier stated that the project would significantly reduce the state’s water supply gap and improve household access to clean water, bringing Lagos closer to achieving sustainable water security for its growing population.
