The Lagos State Government and the Federal Government have strengthened their partnership to improve electricity supply across the state.
The commitment was made during a Ministerial Implementation Retreat on the Clean Lagos Electricity Market (CLEM), held at Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
The retreat was co-chaired by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, with senior officials and key stakeholders in the power sector in attendance.
Speaking after the four-hour meeting, Sanwo-Olu described the discussions as open and productive, saying stakeholders examined the challenges confronting the electricity sector and proposed practical solutions.
He said the priority was to ensure that the outcome of the retreat translated into improved electricity supply and tangible benefits for residents and consumers across Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was also aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply across Nigeria, with Lagos playing a strategic role.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the participation of key institutions, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
Tegbe, who earlier spoke at the retreat, stressed the importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s electricity demand and called for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to expand access to reliable power.
He announced that a steering committee comprising relevant stakeholders would oversee the implementation of the resolutions reached at the retreat.
According to him, the committee would ensure that the agreed measures are translated into measurable actions rather than remaining at the level of discussions.
The retreat focused on the electricity market, regulatory framework, as well as technical and operational challenges requiring immediate and long-term interventions.
The participants also examined measures aimed at creating a more dependable electricity market in Lagos.
