Lagos govt diverts traffic on Lagos-Ibadan expressway for Kara bridge repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced that the Federal Ministry of Works will commence the replacement of the expansion joint at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

The Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunlola, made this known in a statement issued on Monday.

Ogunlola stated: “The project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28 for a period of two weeks.

“Consequently, motorists are advised to expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period.

“Motorist are urged to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.”

Ogunlola said to facilitate repairs, the existing four-lane carriageway would be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to provide a safe work zone.

Ogunlola noted that moderate traffic is expected around the Fatgbems Turn, as some motorists make U-turns or seek alternative routes to avoid delays.

She added: “However, traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn, is expected to flow freely with minimal disruption.

“The ministry also encourages road users to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes where possible, and comply with all traffic advisories to minimise delays.”
