Hoodlums allegedly blocked the vehicle of a Nigerian Army officer and his family in Itire, Lagos, assaulted them and made away with N300,000.
The incident occurred on October 4, according to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, who disclosed the development during a briefing on the command’s operational successes in October.
The hoodlums reportedly blocked the officer’s vehicle, attacked him and his wife, vandalised the car and took the cash.
Police operatives have arrested Muhammad Garuba Alabi, whom the command identified as an alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery.
The police said Alabi confessed to the offence, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who fled the scene.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The latest incident comes amid renewed police operations against hoodlums accused of attacking and harassing motorists in parts of Lagos.
In August, the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad arrested suspected miscreants allegedly terrorising motorists along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway during a midnight operation.
The arrests followed an earlier operation in March in which about 25 suspected hoodlums accused of harassing motorists along the corridor were apprehended.
The suspects, popularly known as “Omotaku”, were arrested during evening patrols aimed at curbing criminal activities along major routes in the area.
