Lagos hotel cashier steals company’s N6.7m

The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, arraigned a 43-year-old cashier at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Tiamiyu Ayanbode, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s N6.7 million.

The cashier, who resides in the Agege area of Lagos, is charged with theft.

Ayanbode pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Felicia Okwori, told the court that the offence was committed between October 2023 and January 2024 at the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja.

The prosecutor said when the company’s account was audited, it was discovered that N6,710,000.00 was missing.

Okwori added that the cashier who was the one in charge could not account for it.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, O. O Fagbohun, admitted Ayanbode to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Fagbohun, therefore, adjourned the case until April 12 for mention.
