The Lagos State Government and the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) have reaffirmed a joint push to expand Nigeria–UK trade and investment during the inauguration of NBCC’s 19th President, Abimbola Olashore, in Lagos.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat outlined a four-point plan to grow bilateral trade, including boosting non-oil exports through SME support, creating a Lagos-based UK–Nigeria Investment Council, advancing innovation partnerships in fintech, health tech and climate tech, and strengthening infrastructure to drive investment and jobs.
Olashore pledged to expand trade opportunities, increase the Chamber’s influence and position NBCC as a leading voice in economic policy.
Former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola, Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah, and UK representatives—including British Chambers of Commerce Chair Sarah Howard and Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter—expressed support for deeper Nigeria–UK economic cooperation and urged the removal of barriers hindering trade.
Business leaders at the event, including BAT’s Yarub Al-Bharani, committed to working with NBCC to advance sustainable investment and enterprise.
