Lagos police arrest 13 over mob attack on Inspector, debunk stealing claims

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the mob attack on a police Inspector whose beating was captured in a viral video.

The command also dismissed social media claims that the Inspector was caught stealing, describing the allegation as false and misleading.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Thursday, December 11, 2025, said the Inspector, who serves with the Lagos State Taskforce, was on official duty along Brown Street in Oshodi enforcing the state government’s ban on wrong parking when the incident occurred.

Adebisi stated that the policeman stopped a motorist attempting to park illegally, but the driver became violent, leading to a confrontation.

Adebisi said during the scuffle, the Inspector accidentally fired shots onto the road and debris.

The police spokesperson noted: “The mob immediately gathered, during which the Inspector was violently attacked and sustained serious injuries.

“The Inspector has been subjected to disciplinary actions in line with established police procedures for his unprofessional conduct.

“In the same vein, 13 suspects captured in the viral video assaulting the officer have been arrested, currently in police custody, and will be prosecuted upon the completion of investigations.

Adebisi, however, urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and continue to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order across Lagos State.
