The Lagos State Government has reopened the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal after nearly three months of closure, following the successful removal of water hyacinth from the affected waterways.
In a public notice issued over the weekend, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) announced that passenger ferry operations at the terminal will resume from Monday, 19 January 2026.
The terminal had been shut since 20 October 2025 due to navigational challenges caused by heavy water hyacinth infestation, forcing authorities to divert ferry services to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty.
LASWA said the decision to reopen the terminal followed the successful clearance of the waterway, completion of safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“With the waterways now cleared and safety checks concluded, the terminal has been approved for full operations,” the authority stated, directing ferry operators to resume services in line with their approved schedules while strictly adhering to all safety and operational guidelines.
