Lagos road crash kills one, injures three

One person was killed and three others seriously injured after a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel in Lagos on Friday.

The accident involved a grey Lexus Jeep with registration number LSD 554 KV, which reportedly lost control, rammed into a roadside pole and overturned.

In a statement, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, said preliminary information indicated that the crash resulted in one death and three serious injuries.

LASTMA officials monitoring traffic in the Coastal Road area quickly moved to the scene, secured the area and coordinated emergency response.

The three injured victims were rescued from the vehicle with assistance from Good Samaritans and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent treatment.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also joined the rescue operation, while LASTMA officials cleared the damaged vehicle from the road to prevent further accidents and restore traffic flow.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to drive cautiously.

He warned that excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of control could have “devastating and irreversible consequences” for motorists and other road users.

Bakare-Oki also urged motorists and members of the public to report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free short code, 3367, for prompt assistance.
