Lagos rolls out traffic plan for Tinubu’s two-day commissioning visit

The Lagos State Government has deployed 500 additional Lagos State Traffic Management Authority personnel to major roads and critical corridors ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s two-day visit to the state, during which he is expected to commission several landmark projects executed by the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso disclosed this on Monday at a news conference, saying the deployment was part of coordinated measures to ensure seamless traffic flow, adequate security, and minimal disruption to residents during the inauguration ceremonies scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

“We are working closely with federal and state agencies to ensure that all arrangements for the President’s visit are seamless, secure, and befitting of the occasion,” Omotoso said, urging residents to cooperate with authorities and comply with traffic advisories and security guidelines to be issued ahead of the visit.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said the 500 officers would be positioned across strategic routes and project corridors to ensure effective traffic control, adding that alternative traffic arrangements would be communicated to the public in good time. He appealed to motorists to cooperate with officers and comply with any temporary diversions introduced during the visit.

Tinubu is billed to inaugurate the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service Building, the Alausa Multi-Agency Complex — named after the President — the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, and a Mid-Level Agro-Produce Hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.

Omotoso described the projects as reflecting the administration’s strategic investment in transportation, infrastructure, education, and public sector development, saying they were conceived to ease mobility, stimulate economic activity, and enhance social welfare.

On the Tolu Schools Complex, he said the facility in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area comprises 36 public schools — 31 secondary and five primary — spread across approximately 11.73 hectares and serving about 20,000 pupils. The complex, which had fallen into decades of dilapidation, now features 13 additional classroom blocks and 24 newly constructed school buildings, reducing the student-to-classroom ratio from 70:1 to 50:1. It also includes an ICT hub, central laboratory, sports facilities, a health centre, solar panels, and inclusive structures for persons with disabilities.

The Alausa Multi-Agency Complex, designed to consolidate government service delivery within the Ikeja administrative hub, sits on 2.01 hectares and consists of four blocks, a penthouse for meetings and conferences, and parking for 300 vehicles.

The Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge spans 5.04 kilometres and was conceived to address chronic traffic gridlock around Ojota, Maryland, Mende, Opebi, and Allen in the Ikeja metropolitan area. Originally conceived more than two decades ago during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos governor, the project was revived and flagged off by Sanwo-Olu in January 2022.

Omotoso said the President’s visit underscored the strong partnership between the Federal Government and Lagos State, as well as the importance of continuity in governance.
