Residents of several villages in Kebbi State’s Augie Local Government Area are calling on the Nigerian government and military for urgent intervention, following escalating threats from the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group.
The group has reportedly issued a grim ultimatum to local farmers, warning them against adopting mechanized farming methods. According to sources in the affected communities, the terrorists have vowed to execute anyone who replaces traditional cattle-driven farming with machines.
This threat has sparked widespread fear and uncertainty among villagers, many of whom have already suffered from cattle rustling perpetrated by the same group. With their livestock depleted, some farmers had turned to small-scale mechanized farming as a viable alternative—until the terrorists’ warning shut down even that possibility.

“They’ve taken our cattle, and now they’re trying to control how we farm,” one resident lamented. “We are not just farming for survival; we are large-scale farmers, contributing to food supply and commerce. Yet, we’re being forced backward.”
The impact of the terrorists’ threats has been devastating, leaving many farmers unsure of how to continue feeding their families or maintaining their livelihoods. Villagers say they feel trapped—unable to farm with animals due to rustling, and unable to use machines due to fear of violent reprisals.
An intelligence source confirmed that the terrorists’ threats were credible and widespread, with warnings of dire consequences, including execution, for any defiance. However, the source also assured that the situation is receiving serious attention from security forces.
As fear and frustration grow, local communities are pleading with the government and security agencies to restore safety and allow them to farm freely without intimidation.
