LASU graduate shot as robbers attack PoS operator’s home in Lagos

A graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) is fighting for his life after he was hit by a stray bullet when suspected armed robbers attacked the residence of a Point of Sale (PoS) operator in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Sunday on Kayode Onafuye Street in the Alhaji Ede area, where the assailants reportedly trailed the PoS operator to her residence.

Eyewitnesses said the four-man gang arrived on two motorcycles and first visited the victim’s shop, which is located close to her home. After discovering she was not at the shop, they proceeded to the house and attempted to force their way inside.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Bode, said the occupants locked the entrance, preventing the robbers from gaining access.

According to him, the gunmen became frustrated and began shooting indiscriminately.

“The robbers came on two motorcycles and were about four in number. They traced the PoS operator to her house. When they couldn’t gain access after the occupants shut the entrance door, they started firing,” he said.

Another resident said the LASU graduate was passing through the area when the shooting began and was struck by one of the bullets.

The resident explained that many people in the neighbourhood were unaware of the robbery until gunshots rang out.

“He unknowingly walked into the scene before realising what was happening. He was hit by a bullet as the robbers opened fire after failing to find their target,” the resident said.

The injured graduate was rushed to a nearby General Hospital by residents, who said he had recently completed his studies at LASU and was preparing for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

A police source confirmed that officers were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress report.

The source added that detectives recovered spent bullet shells from the area and had commenced an investigation into the attack.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, said she had yet to receive the report but promised to verify the incident. At the time of filing this report, no further update had been provided.
