A dispute over the estate of the late former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Saidu Gidado Idris, has erupted among his family members, with some children alleging exclusion from their father’s inheritance.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, one of his sons, Saidu, said he and six siblings from their late mother’s side have been denied access to their father’s Abuja residence since his death in 2017.
He claimed they have not been allowed to view the Will or property documents, contrary to Islamic practice.
According to him, a court ruling had awarded the Abuja home at No. 2 Mambilla Street, Aso Drive, to their stepmother, while the siblings were allocated a property in Kaduna and two houses in Zaria.
The judgment also directed that they be paid ₦181.2 million to balance property values, but the payment has allegedly remained pending for over two years.
Saidu further alleged that the Zaria houses were later sold without their consent, despite a 2020 court order mandating compensation.
“Our father was a just and gentle man. We believe he left a Will, but we have been denied access to it.
“We are appealing for prayers, sympathy and intervention,” he said.
The late Idris, who died in 2017, is survived by one wife and 12 children.
His family consisted of three wives—one deceased, one divorced, and the surviving widow. Efforts to obtain the widow’s reaction were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
