Latest developments in US-Iran strikes

United States and Iranian strikes extended into Sunday as America said it sought to “punish” the Islamic republic for killing two U.S. servicemen at a base in Jordan, and Gulf states said they responded to Iranian attacks.

Here are the latest developments on Sunday, July 19, 2026:

Jordan denies evacuation

Jordanian authorities denied that they had ordered the evacuation of the airport and seaport in the coastal city of Aqaba – after the US embassy in Amman said the facilities had been evacuated over a threat.

Iran executes protesters

Iran’s judiciary announced the hanging of two men over charges relating to anti-government protests that peaked in January, sparked a month earlier by economic grievances.

Iran says nuclear plant being built attacked

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said the United States attacked an under-construction nuclear power plant in Darkhovin, in the country’s southwest.

Kuwait, Bahrain attacked

Kuwait and Bahrain’s militaries said they responded to Iranian aerial attacks, and air raid sirens sounded in the two Gulf countries as Tehran pressed its retaliatory strikes across the region.

Iran says ships ‘stopped’

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said four ships attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz without their permission and two “had an accident and were stopped in place”. They said the other two abandoned their journey.

US strikes

The United States conducted its eighth consecutive night of strikes on Iran.

Its CENTCOM military command said they were partly to “punish” Iran for an attack it waged on Friday on a base in Jordan which killed two US soldiers and left another missing in action.

The strikes were also to “degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz”, CENTCOM said.

Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim reported US attacks on Sirik, a port located on the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran.
