Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives have emphasised the need for continued prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria as the National Assembly hosted a Christmas carol.
The event, organised by the Christian Legislators’ Fellowship, brought lawmakers together to seek divine guidance for the nation and its leaders.
Speaking at the gathering, Amos Magaji, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health, said the birth of Jesus Christ symbolised peace, joy and restoration.
He urged Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or social status, to embrace peace and encouraged Christians to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas in their daily lives.
Also speaking, Ipalibo Banigo, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary) and a former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, commended the organisers of the event, describing the Christmas season as a time for deep reflection.
The Secretary of the fellowship, Bamidele Salami, who is also Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, called on Christians to remain steadfast in their service to God and humanity.
He prayed for Nigeria’s unity as a foundation for sustained national growth and development.
Similarly, Anthony Yaro, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, urged Nigerians to collectively confront the challenges facing the country.
He noted that the Christmas season offers an opportunity for sober reflection on the need to strengthen unity and promote lasting peace nationwide.
