The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for employers to file their annual tax returns by one week, shifting it from February 1 to February 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, said the extension was granted to give employers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.
He noted that although the statutory deadline for filing annual employers’ returns is January 31 each year, the grace period is intended to encourage full compliance and reduce errors in submissions.
Subair urged employers to prioritise timely filing, stressing that tax compliance should be treated as a routine business responsibility.
He also reiterated that all submissions must be made electronically through the LIRS eTax platform, as manual filings have been completely discontinued.
According to him, the eTax portal provides a secure, user-friendly and round-the-clock system for filing returns.
Employers were further advised to ensure that the Tax Identification Numbers (TaxIDs) of all employees are correctly captured when making their submissions.
