Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, where both leaders held discussions on key national issues ahead of the 2026 general election.

Makinde, who visited Obasanjo alongside former Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun) on Sunday, August 2, 2026, disclosed that the visit focused on matters of national importance as preparations gather pace for the next electoral cycle.

The governor said the meeting provided an opportunity to seek the former president’s guidance on the country’s political future and other pressing national concerns.

“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election. We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” he wrote on X.

Although details of the discussions were not made public, the meeting comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
