Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says he will not “go into the gutter” with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the planned national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Makinde said this while addressing newsmen after the PDP southern consultative zoning meeting in Lagos on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Wike had, on Wednesday, said he was not invited to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP, where the party members approved Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, as the venue for the national convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025.
The minister said he was not aware of convention in Ibadan, adding: “As an NEC member, I have not been informed, nor have I been invited to the NEC meeting.”
However, it was learnt that Wike was invited to the meeting.
Makinde: Strengthening PDP vital than choice of 2027 presidential candidate
Some party leaders, including state chairmen of the PDP in the south-east and south-south, on Thursday, said they were not invited to the zoning meeting in Lagos.
The PDP leaders described the meeting as illegal, adding that they would challenge the outcome of the meeting.
Speaking on the development, Makinde said: “Personally, when people go low, or they go into the gutters, I don’t go with them.”
Makinde added that efforts would be made to reach out to the aggrieved members of the PDP.
The governor said: “I can disagree with people, but there shouldn’t be anything personal here.
“It should be about what we are giving to Nigerians because they are watching, you know. We want to give a PDP.”
