Makinde: PDP remains unbeatable in Oyo ahead of 2027

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that no political party other than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands a chance of winning elections in the state, as the 2027 general elections approach.

Makinde made the statement on Monday at the campaign flag-off for Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, the PDP candidate for the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025. The event took place at Bodija Market in Ibadan.

Describing Oyekunle as a “tested and trusted politician” with a strong track record, the governor urged residents to vote massively for him to ensure continued quality representation.

He noted that Oyekunle had previously served in the Oyo State House of Assembly and as Deputy Chief of Staff, where he proved his competence and loyalty.

“This election is about proving that Oyo is solidly PDP.

“Tell anyone who says another party can win here that it’s impossible,” Makinde said.

He added that Oyekunle’s election to the House of Representatives would bring development and effective representation to Ibadan North.

The campaign event drew a large crowd of party leaders, government officials, and supporters, including Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarunmi, state lawmakers, and top PDP executives, signaling strong momentum for the ruling party ahead of the by-election.
