Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed the reason behind his political disagreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Makinde disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the Government House in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
The governor revealed that the rift between him and Wike began after the minister told President Bola Tinubu during a meeting that he would “hold PDP” for the president ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde said this statement was made by Wike without the consent of other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders.
Makinde: Why I’m qualified to become Nigeria’s president
He said: “I was in a meeting with President Tinubu, Wike, and a few others, and Wike said to the president, ‘Sir, I will hold the PDP for you in 2027’. I was shocked.
“So, we got up, and I asked Wike, did we agree to this?”
The governor added that while Wike is entitled to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, other members of the PDP also have the right to protect the party and oppose any move that could weaken democratic pluralism.
