Man, 32, arraigned for sexual assault on instagram friend

The Lagos State Police on Tuesday arraigned a 32-year-old artist, Dare Herald, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman he met on Instagram.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged incident occurred on January 22, 2023, at the defendant’s residence on Tesmot Close, Lekki Phase One, Lagos.

Ademigbuji told the court that Herald and the complainant became friends after meeting on Instagram and later discovered that they both attended the same church.

The defendant reportedly bought a Christian book for the woman and invited her to his home.

However, during the visit, he allegedly sexually assaulted her by forcefully touching her breast and private parts.

The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Herald pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦400,000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until November 20 for mention.
