The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of one Yusuf Abass before Justice S. U. Bature of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on a one-count charge bordering on internet fraud.
The charge read: “That you, Yusuf Abass between February and May 2022 at Abuja within the Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory by deceiving did attempt to cheat the duo of Bich Van Bui and Winnie Chu, Indian nationals, by representing yourself as one Babul Khan through the means of your email [email protected] and Facebook page with profile name Babul Khan and professing love to them in facilitation of your attempt to obtain financial benefit to yourself which representation you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of the Federation (Abuja), 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law.”

The defendant, however, pleaded “guilty” to the charge.
Consequently, Justice Bature convicted and sentenced Abass to three months in prison with a fine option of N200,000.
