The Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu, has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, popularly known as Easy-money, to one year imprisonment for abusing the Nigerian currency during his birthday celebration.
Justice F. O. Giwa-Ogunbanjo delivered the ruling after Ikechukwu pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of Naira mutilation brought against him by the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the EFCC, the convict was captured in a viral video dancing on N81,700 in Naira notes at Embassy Hotel, Enugu Ezike, on February 22, 2026. Acting on the footage, operatives arrested him on February 28 at his residence near the timber market in Enugu Ezike.
The charge stated that Ikechukwu “danced and matched on the sum of Eighty-One thousand, Seven hundred Naira issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria,” an offence contrary to Section 21(1) of the CBN Act, 2007.
Upon his guilty plea, the court sentenced him to one year imprisonment starting from the date of arraignment, with an option of a N300,000 fine.
The judge further ordered the forfeiture of the N81,700 recovered from him to the Federal Government through the EFCC.
