A man has been electrocuted at Jigawa State New Secretariat Complex in Dutse, the state capital.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Shiisu said the body of the man was found under a slab that contained armored cable at the scene.

Shiisu said the police received a distress call at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday from the Ministry of Works regarding an incident that occurred at the Jigawa State Secretariat New Complex, Dutse.

He stated: “A team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division responded to the call.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the police officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab that contained armored cables.”

Shiisu said a preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalize armored electrical cables connected to a high-voltage power source.

The police spokesman added that the deceased’s body had been evacuated to Dutse General Hospital for a medical examination.

Shiisu reminded the residents of risks associated with vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly electrical installations.

He noted that the command strongly condemned the criminal act and warned members of the public against engaging in such hazardous and unlawful activities.

Shiisu urged residents of Jigawa State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities in their communities to the nearest police station.
