A Niger State man is in police custody after a DNA test confirmed that he fathered a child with his own 16-year-old granddaughter, in a case of repeated sexual abuse that has shocked the community.
The suspect, identified as Musa Gado, allegedly engaged in sustained sexual relations with the minor, leaving her pregnant. When the pregnancy was discovered, he reportedly pressured the teenager to terminate it, and she made an unsuccessful attempt to do so using drugs and injections.
The abuse came to light on October 5, 2025, when the girl’s father, Lawali Baba, and the local community head, Mai Angwa, brought her to the Child Rights Protection and Enforcement Agency to report the matter. The teenager, who was already six months pregnant at the time, was taken into protective custody and provided with medical care.
She remained under the agency’s care until she was safely delivered of a baby boy. Both mother and child are still in the agency’s custody as legal proceedings advance.
The Director-General of the agency, Barrister Uma Mohammed, confirmed that the police were investigating the matter and would prosecute the suspect.
“The Child Rights Agency is handling the case, while the police are investigating and will prosecute the suspect. Musa Gado is currently in custody undergoing investigation,” Mohammed said.
A DNA test conducted in the course of the investigation confirmed Gado as the biological father of the newborn, strengthening the evidentiary case against him.
