Man gets 12 years for rape, assaults while on bail

A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to a 12-year extended prison term in the United Kingdom after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while on bail.

Olukanyinsola Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration following a trial.

The offences were committed between June 2024 and September 2025, with the court hearing that Odebode raped and sexually assaulted one woman in the Gwent Police area before being arrested and released on bail.

While on bail, he sexually assaulted another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.

Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode posed a significant risk to women and that his actions had caused life-changing consequences for his victims.

The court also heard that Odebode had denied the allegations and forced both women to give evidence during the trial.

A Probation Service assessment found that he showed little insight into his conduct and had completely rejected the jury’s findings. The report concluded that he posed a high risk of serious harm, linked to attitudes of entitlement.

One of the victims described Odebode as “very predatory” in her impact statement, while the court heard that his actions had a profound effect on both women.

Prosecutors also told the court that seven other women had raised concerns about Odebode’s sexual behaviour with police since 2019. Those allegations, which included rape, sexual assault, indecent exposure and stalking, did not result in convictions.

Odebode, who had no previous convictions, was described by Judge Huw Rees as a “sexually precocious person” based on the evidence presented during the trial and reports before the court.

His lawyer, Matt Murphy, said he hoped Odebode would gain greater insight into his behaviour while serving his sentence.

However, Judge Rees said an extended sentence was necessary because of the danger Odebode posed to the public.

He was sentenced to nine years in custody followed by three years on licence.

Odebode must serve two-thirds of his custodial sentence before becoming eligible to apply for release, with the Parole Board to determine whether he can safely be released.

He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
