A High Court in Kano has sentenced Umar Idris Farawa to death by hanging after convicting him of the 2021 murder of his friend, Sabiu Umar.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, called three witnesses who established that Farawa had attempted to steal marriage items — kayan lefe — from the deceased’s shop.
The court heard that Sabiu confronted him over the theft, triggering a fight during which Farawa stabbed him in the chest.
The victim was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Farawa called two witnesses in his defence.
Delivering judgment, Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the convict accordingly.
