A 32-year-old man, Goni Umbadu, has been stabbed to death following a dispute over alleged grass theft in Saleri village, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The incident occurred on June 20, 2025. According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began when Goni confronted another villager, identified as Haruna Mai Pampy, accusing him of stealing grass intended for animal feed.
The confrontation escalated into violence, during which Haruna allegedly stabbed Goni multiple times in the stomach, chest, and back with a knife.
Goni was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Geidam but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
In the wake of the killing, enraged youths launched a reprisal attack, setting fire to five thatched houses belonging to Fulani residents in the community.
Police sources confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, but investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend both the murder suspect and those involved in the arson.
