Police operatives in Jos, Plateau State, have arrested a 51-year-old married man, Moses Abraham, for allegedly beating his lover, Cecilia, to death after accusing her of infidelity.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday at the Legislative Quarters area of Jos, when Abraham, a long-distance tanker driver and father of five, reportedly visited the apartment he rented for Cecilia — only to find another man there.
According to eyewitnesses, Abraham left the apartment in anger and went to a nearby bar, where he stayed until late into the night.
After the visitor had left, he returned to confront Cecilia.
The confrontation quickly turned violent as Abraham allegedly locked the door and assaulted her severely, hitting her head against the wall multiple times before reportedly using a stone to crush her skull.
A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said Cecilia, who was separated from her husband, ran a small salon near her residence.
“He rented the apartment for her, and we often saw him around whenever he was in town.
“But he claimed she was seeing other men whenever he travelled,” the neighbour said.
After the incident, Abraham reportedly went to the Nasarawa-Gwom Police Station to confess to the crime and led officers to the scene, where Cecilia’s body was recovered and taken to a nearby mortuary.
The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest, noting that an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
