Man kills wife over infidelity

The operatives of Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man, Victor Okon, for allegedly killing his 38-year-old wife, Victoria Okoh, at their residence in the Oron area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, March 10, 2025.

John said the operatives of the command swiftly responded to a distress call from concerned residents at 05:20 a.m. about the incident.

“On arrival at the scene, the officers discovered the mutilated body of the deceased lying outside the house she shared with her husband,” John stated.

John noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity.

The police spokesperson said further reports indicated that the suspect hid in the ceiling of the house in an attempt to evade arrest.

John added that police operatives, however, went into the building and apprehended the man.

“The machete used in committing the crime was recovered by the police and photographs of the scene were taken for investigation purposes,” John said.

John stated that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the state’s General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy, adding that the suspect would be charged to court soon.

John quoted the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, as condemning the act and assuring the public that justice would take its full course.

Azare warned against all forms of domestic violence and called on residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.

The police commissioner pledged the commitment of the command toward ensuring the safety of citizens.

He also urged the members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation in Akwa Ibom State.
