A 37-year-old man, Promise Richard, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a Kaduna magistrates’ court for allegedly killing a fellow football fan during an argument at a viewing centre in Kaduna.
The incident occurred on May 21 at Narayi High Cost area, where Richard and the 32-year-old victim reportedly got into a heated exchange following a football match.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, Richard left the scene, returned with a broken bottle, and stabbed the victim in the neck.
The injured man was rushed to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
Richard has been charged with murder. However, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel declined to take his plea due to lack of jurisdiction and ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The court adjourned the case to June 19 for mention.
The offence contravenes Section 190 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
