Many injured, shops razed as another explosion rocks Kano

Gas explosion at a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refiling shop has razed down shops and injured no fewer than 20 people in Kano.

The incident was disclosed via a statement issued and made available to The Star by the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, noting that the incident occurred at Sheka area in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday.

Abdullahi noted that the explosion was caused by a fish seller close to a shop that sells cooking gas in the area.

According to him, fire caught up with the gas shop where gas cylinder exploded and collapsed part of the building.

The statement read: “Our fire fighters crew from Central Fire Station arrived at the scene of the incident by 19:13, and found that, a building of ground floor of about 40 X 40ft use as a dwelling house and shops attached with the building.

“A gas sale shops engulfed by fire and some gas cylinder exploded and collapsed some part of the building.

“While twenty (20) people involved were rescued alive, the cause of the incident was fish sales point nearby gas shop.”

It would be recalled that a couple of weeks ago an explosion in Sabon Gari area of Kano was reported by the police to have been caused by gas and chemicals in a shop.
