Many killed as bandits attack 4 communities in Ondo

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State and killed many residents in the areas.

The affected communities are Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekun in the Akure North LGA of Ondo State.

It was gathered that many people living in the communities were killed during an attack which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Speaking with the newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, a resident of one of the attacked communities, who simply identified himself as Sunday, disclosed that many people were killed by the bandits.

Sunday, who spoke with newsmen on Monday, said many residents in the communities fled their homes to seek refuge in the bush.

Sunday explained that the attack started last week Monday, but a fresh one was launched on Saturday morning.

He said: “They attacked our communities when everyone was asleep; they opened gun fire on anyone in sight.

“Many ran into the bush for safety while some unlucky ones were killed in the villages.

”On Sunday, security men came around and recovered some of the corpses.

“Many people are missing and have still not been accounted for. If they search further, they will still find more dead bodies in the bush.”

The incident was confirmed by the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP  Funmilayo Odunlami, on Monday.

Odunlami said an investigation had started, adding that police operatives are in the affected communities to restore normalcy.

She said the attack on Aba Pastor community was reported to the police on Saturday.

“Immediately, the command swung into action to ensure normalcy was restored and the perpetrators arrested,” the police spokesperson stated.
