A wave of defections has hit Dawakin Tofa, the home constituency of former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, as several All Progressives Congress (APC) members crossed over to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf formally received the defectors at the Government House on Friday, describing their move as a strong vote of confidence in his administration.
“This is a clear endorsement of our programmes and policies over the last two years,” Yusuf said, recalling his 2023 campaign tour across all 44 local government areas, including Dawakin Tofa.
“I promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to every part of Kano State, and Dawakin Tofa is a crucial part of that struggle.
“I am happy to witness this massive defection from APC to NNPP.”
The governor highlighted his government’s achievements in the area, including the completion of a five-kilometre road abandoned by the previous administration, and pledged to build a new school. He assured the defectors of full integration into the party without discrimination and promised more development projects.
Yusuf also announced plans to restructure the Dawanau International Market into an agency with a board and Managing Director for better administration.
Commending the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Chairman for generating ₦500 million internally and channeling it into development projects, the governor promised to address outstanding concerns from the area.
Local government chairman disclosed that his administration had renovated 15 primary schools and sponsored over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.
NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the new members and expressed confidence that Dawakin Tofa would surpass the party’s 2023 electoral performance in Gwale.
Prominent figures among the defectors include Hon. Nura Tumfafi, Hon. Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, Alhaji Umar Ismail, Alhaji Abba Muntari, Sani Shafiu, Hussaini Adamu, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayuba, Magaji Ruba-Ruba, Sabo Adamu, and Abdullahi Sale Turaki.
