Medical doctor, brother abducted in Edo

Two brothers, including a medical doctor, were kidnapped in Auchi, Edo North, Edo State, the police have confirmed.

The victims — identified as Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, a doctor completing his housemanship at Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi, and his sibling Abu Tahir — were abducted on January 2, 2026, while trying to enter their home after work.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on City Pride Road, Ibira Camp, according to the Edo State Police Command, which confirmed the report on Saturday.

A family source described the abduction as distressing, saying the community is gripped by fear and appealing to security agencies and the government to act swiftly to secure their release.

Police say a rescue operation involving officers, vigilantes, forest guards, and Community Safety volunteers has been underway since the report was received, with thorough searches being conducted in nearby forest areas.

The command assured that all efforts will be made to locate and free the brothers, and further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
