Meta has expanded its push into consumer artificial intelligence with the launch of its Muse AI assistant on the iPad, just a month after the app debuted on iPhone.
The company announced the iPad release on Wednesday, extending access to Muse, which has recorded more than 6.6 million installs since its launch on iOS and Android on September 8, according to estimates by market intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
Muse is designed to act as a personal AI agent, allowing users to connect their accounts and manage tasks such as emails, meetings and bills. It can also perform activities including booking reservations, ordering groceries, setting goals and making purchases.
The rapid expansion to iPad comes significantly faster than the rollout of some of Meta’s other major consumer products. Instagram, for instance, took about 15 years to arrive on the iPad despite years of requests from users.
The iPad version also comes with an expanded range of third-party integrations, known as “connectors”. These allow users to selectively link services they use and give Muse permission to perform tasks on their behalf.
Newer connectors include Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks, GitHub, Klaviyo and Zoom, along with Meta advertising accounts. Notion and Granola have also been added.
Meta has also expanded Muse’s retail capabilities through partnerships with Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart and Wayfair. The integrations allow the AI assistant to browse retailers’ websites and complete purchases for users.
However, the technology still faces challenges, particularly when websites identify AI agents as automated bots and restrict their access.
Meta said it is working with industry partners on an open standard designed to allow AI agents to identify themselves to businesses. The initiative is intended to help companies distinguish authorised personal AI agents from malicious or unwanted bots.
The iPad launch comes as Meta accelerates its efforts to position Muse as a broader AI agent capable of handling increasingly complex tasks across users’ digital lives.
