Missing NYSC member found dead in Bayelsa community

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, has been found dead after days of being declared missing.

Chimaroke, a Civil Engineering graduate and former Students’ Union Government President of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was reportedly discovered in a body of water in Nembe.

According to information shared by colleagues and associates, the corps member was allegedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants before his body was recovered. However, authorities have yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Bayelsa State Police Command had earlier launched a search operation after he was reported missing.

Security sources said the case was reported at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25 by fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.

According to the report, the Local Government Inspector informed the police that the 27-year-old corps member, who was serving in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8 p.m. on July 24.

Repeated attempts to reach him through his mobile phone lines were unsuccessful, prompting concerns over his whereabouts.

Following the report, police deployed operatives to the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to begin search and investigation efforts.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command had not officially confirmed the recovery of the corps member’s body or the exact cause of his death. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
