A privately owned radio broadcast stations – Fresh FM Ado in Ekiti State and Splash FM Ibadan in Oyo State – have banned the playing of songs by controversial Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station.
Fresh FM, in a post on its Instagram account on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, hinged the ban on the alleged attacks on late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, fondly called MohBad, before his death.
The radio station, in a post signed by its Head of Production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams, stated: “Following the public outcry from the general public trialing the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), the alleged victimisation from different videos going viral and the involvement of members of his previous record label (Marlian records), Fresh 106.9 FM has suspended the airplay of all songs and contents under the banner of Marlian Records.”
Also, Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan, on Monday, September 18, banned the playing of songs by Naira Marley.

This was disclosed in a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by one of the presenters at the radio station, Aderonke Adesola.
The station noted that Marley’s songs have been placed on “Not to Be Broadcast” on the radio by its management
It said: “In view of the sensitive nature around the death of Mohbad and the criminal procedure, the police have commenced, I will urge us all to exercise discretion.
“To this effect, Naira Marley’s songs have become NTBB (not to be broadcast) on our station till further notice. This is with immediate effect. Thank you.”
The Star recalls that Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley at Marlian Records, died at the age of 27 last Tuesday.
A series of videos have since surfaced online showing alleged attacks on Mohbad.
The Lagos State Police Command has however set up a special investigative team to probe the death of the late singer.
