The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, while also directing his partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to stop using the family surname until a court-ordered DNA test is concluded.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the head of the family, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, reiterated their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the 27-year-old musician’s death and ensuring justice is served.
“The Aloba family remains resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
“We are committed to seeing that justice is served, the truth uncovered, and those responsible held accountable,” the statement read.
The family appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, as the sole legal representative for all matters relating to the DNA case and Mohbad’s estate.
Additionally, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue to represent the family in all communications with investigative authorities regarding the ongoing inquiry.
Regarding the management of Mohbad’s estate, the family named Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba as administrators of the deceased’s assets, royalties, and intellectual property.
The statement clarified that Adebanjo could join the estate administration only if a valid DNA test confirms that her son,Mm Liam, is Mohbad’s biological child.
The family also requested that Adebanjo refrain from using the surname Aloba in public or private records until paternity is legally confirmed.
They further noted that no statutory or customary marriage took place between Mohbad and Adebanjo, as traditional Yoruba rites, including the payment of bride price, were never completed.
“If the DNA result confirms that Liam is the biological son of the late Mohbad, both mother and child will be recognised in the estate administration process,” the statement added.
The family appealed for public calm and respect for the judicial process, emphasising that the DNA verification is intended to ensure legal clarity and fairness, not to vilify anyone.
A new burial and memorial date for Mohbad will be announced once all legal and family matters are resolved.
“The family will announce a new burial date and memorial plan for Mohbad in due course after the completion of all internal and legal formalities on the DNA matter.
“Justice for Mohbad remains our unwavering goal, and we will continue to pursue it through lawful and peaceful means,” the statement concluded.
