A motorcyclist riding against traffic has allegedly killed a firefighter at the Trade Fair Complex in the Ojo area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident via a statement issued by its General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Bakare-Oki noted that the trade fair complex road accident occurred inward Abule-Ado on the service lane.
Bakare-Oki said preliminary investigations revealed that a commercial motorcyclist riding against the approved direction of traffic (one-way) at excessive speed collided with the firefighter as he attempted to cross the expressway.
The LASTMA boss stated: “In the resulting confusion, an approaching Shacman truck heavily laden with sand was unable to brake effectively, culminating in the fatal incident.
“LASTMA personnel responsible for traffic control within the Trade Fair axis responded with remarkable promptness, cordoning off the entire accident corridor to maintain order and ensure the safety of other road users.”

Bakare-Oki said motorcyclist fled the scene with his motorcycle before he was apprehended, while the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Bakare-Oki disclosed that remains of the late firefighter were evacuated by his colleagues from the Federal Fire Service using an official ambulance deployed from the Trade Fair Complex.
“LASTMA officials handed over the impounded truck to designated security personnel for comprehensive investigation and further legal procedures,” he added.
Lamenting the persistent and dangerous practice of driving against traffic across Lagos, the LASTMA boss warned motorists and commercial motorcyclists, emphasising that such conduct has repeatedly resulted in needless tragedies and immeasurable anguish.
Bakare-Oki urged all road users to obey directional signs and comply strictly with government-approved speed limits as an essential civic responsibility towards preserving human life.
