Mozambique’s President Daniel Francisco Chapo has announced a cash incentive for his national football team ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Round of 16 clash with Nigeria.
The Mambas secured a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament in Morocco after finishing third in Group F, despite a 2–1 loss to Cameroon in their final group match.
In a message addressed to the players and coaching staff, President Chapo described qualifying for the last 16 as a historic achievement and praised the team’s courage and commitment.
To boost their motivation against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, he announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais (about ₦11.3 million) for each player and member of the technical crew if they defeat Nigeria and advance to the quarterfinals.
The two teams are scheduled to meet in Fès, Morocco, on Monday, January 5, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. local time.
