MultiChoice has shut down Africa Magic Family after 12 years on DStv, replacing the family entertainment channel with a new offering, Africa Magic+, as part of a revamp of its television line-up.
The closure was announced on Thursday through Africa Magic’s official Instagram page, which described the development as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
In its farewell message, the channel wrote, “Goodbye, Africa Magic Family,” adding that the closure would usher in a new entertainment offering.
“One chapter closes, but the story is far from over.
“Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way,” the announcement read.
The broadcaster also urged viewers to anticipate its replacement, promising a broader range of entertainment content.
“More stories, more drama, more variety. Expect more on Africa Magic+ from November 5, 6AM WAT,” it added.

The shutdown marks the end of Africa Magic Family’s 12-year run on the DStv platform, where it became popular for broadcasting family-friendly Nollywood movies, Nigerian drama series and other African entertainment programmes.
The channel attracted viewers with its focus on locally produced films and television content, particularly stories from Nigeria.
Its replacement, Africa Magic+, is expected to offer a wider variety of entertainment content to subscribers.
The development comes amid a broader restructuring of DStv’s channel line-up and subscription packages, which took effect on November 5, 2026.
The change forms part of MultiChoice’s efforts to refresh its programming and expand the range of entertainment available to viewers.
